About
The Ambrose Lions Club serves the Bay Point and Pittsburg California communities. Our club was founded 60 years ago on July 1, 1952. We do several fundraising and service projects for both Bay Point and Pittsburg throughout the year.
Our Service Projects include:
* Sight Savers where we provide eye examinations and eye glasses to those who cannot afford it, working with the School of Optometry at UC Berkeley.
* Christmas Food Basket Program where we give a Turkey and all the "fixings" for a Christmas Dinner to needy families in Bay Point and Pittsburg. We target 50 families each year and work through local schools and social service organizations to identify those who should receive a food basket.
* Donations to local elementary school's uniform closet. The uniforms are given to students that cannot afford to purchase the required school uniforms.
* Graduating Seniors Scholarship Program, targeting seniors in high school who live in Bay Point and Pittsburg. The proceeds of our annual Spring Carnival benefit this program.
* Student Speaker Contest targeting high school students who are in drama or speech. There is a new topic each year and there are several levels of competition. The first step is the speech before our Ambrose Lions Club. The winner receives a $75 prize and is eligible to continue. The ultimate speech contest winner receives more than $10,000 so it is a very important program.
* Support for the Lions Center for the Visually Impaired in Pittsburg, which serves the blind and sight impaired in Contra Costa County, including craft and skills classes, one-on-one counseling to ensure independence in the home and advocacy for those receiving the Center's services.
We also have fun by holding several fundraisers throughout the year, including our pancake breakfasts, gourmet pasta dinner and the annual Bay Point Spring Carnival, usually held in late March/early April along Willow Pass Road in Bay Point. Watch for it and bring your entire family!
